JAMES W. ASHTON

15 Feb 2010

The Australian polo community is saddened by the death of James Ashton following a fall during a polo match in Thailand on the weekend.

James’ list of achievements is extensive. As President of the Australian Polo Council, the success of the 2001 World Cup in Melbourne was largely attributable to him. That event is regarded as one of the most successful ever run. More recently his election as FIP Interim President was further recognition of James’ stature in the global polo community, for he is the person the polo world turned to when FIP faced crisis and an uncertain future.

As a friend and mentor his wisdom, generosity, determination, integrity, courage and diplomacy has been inspirational.

Our sympathy and heartfelt best wishes go to Susan and family. He will be greatly missed.

Leon Reardon, President
Australian Polo Council
